How You’ll Learn

Marian offers a comprehensive blend of classroom instruction, simulation lab skill-building and direct patient care experience.

Curriculum

Our concept-based nursing courses start in your sophomore year and are designed to prepare you for the realities of working as a registered nurse in an ever changing healthcare environment. We build your problem-solving and critical thinking skills enabling you to manage a variety of clinical and leadership situations.

At Marian University, we believe in educating the “whole student.” Along with your nursing courses, you will take general education courses such as English, math, and communications. Marian’s innovative general ed program allows you to choose your theme so you can take courses that interest you most. You’ll take fewer general ed courses at Marian leaving more time for nursing courses.

Nursing Simulation and Resource Center

At Marian’s innovative Center for Health Professions, you will learn new competencies in skills labs, the health assessment lab, and simulation rooms. Practice the basics of nursing care including physical assessment and communication to advanced skills such as tracheostomy and central line care.

Working and learning with high-fidelity simulators provides the confidence you’ll need to face high-risk, low-frequency scenarios. Interact with emergency situations in a simulated environment prior to caring for actual patients.

Clinicals

Along with learning new skills in a simulated environment, you will participate in more than 600 hours of hands-on clinical experience caring for clients with various needs. You will travel to healthcare facilities in the Fond du Lac area to gain experience in long term care, surgical, medical, critical care, mental health, community health, pediatrics, and women’s health with Marian professors and RNs mentoring you along the way.
